Straight from the President

Want to know more about the amendment suggested by parental rights to protect America from the threat of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child? You have the opportunity to hear all about it straight from Michael Farris, president of parental rights and co-founder/chairman of HSLDA.

Michael Farris will be interviewed by Gov. Mike Huckabee on the Huckabee show on the FOX news channel tonight and will be on again Sunday at 2 am, 8 pm, and 11 pm. Please take the time to catch one of these shows. Parental Rights suggested that you record it to show to friends and loved ones who may not be aware of how the government is trying to take control of the upbringing of our children.

So put it on your calendar or your list of “must sees!” It is well worth it!

See these previous blog posts for more information about parental rights and its fight against the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Tom’s Mom

Once upon a time there lived a little boy named Tom. Tom’s mom loved him and doted on him constantly. When Tom got a bad grade at school, his mom was there to “explain away” the problem. When he got into trouble, his mom was there to take the blame. When Tom wasted away his money, his mom was there to give him more.

Doesn’t this sound like an awesome relationship? What boy wouldn’t want someone always there sweeping his messes under the rug? Unfortunately, as awesome as it sounds to live in this scenario, it has some major issues.

Even though Tom and his mom loved each other, Tom had a big problem. He wasn’t learning how to be responsible. When he gets out in the real world without his mom there to defend  him, he won’t know how to fend for himself. He is learning that no matter how much trouble he gets into, him Mom is right there to dust him off and cover for him. His mom has literally been running herself ragged trying to keep up with the growing mischiefs of her son.

This scenario has many things in common with the government and the American people. Tom represents the American people, and his mom represents the government.

It seems so awesome to have a net underneath us as we walk on the tightrope of life, but unfortunately the net eventually has to be taken away. It is safer to walk knowing there is no net than to walk with the expectation of a net that is not strong enough to hold. The idea of the government being able to pick us up and dust us off after every mistake we make sounds so alluring.

But it can’t go on forever, and the government does not love us like a mother. It is very possible that about the time we Americans grow accustomed to being cleaned up after, the government will change its ways and use our dependence to take away our freedom.

Yesterday the New American Tea Party took place at different locations across the nation. The purpose of this was to let the government know that we do not approve of all the bail outs and unnecessary spending. If America keeps up at the pace it is going right now, we will all drown in debt.

Have you let the government cover for you like Tom? It isn’t too late to change your ways and let our leaders know how you feel about the crazy spending habits of our government. Send a letter or call your representatives to let them know what you think.

There were at least a thousand present at the Rhode Island tea part at one time. Since people were constantly coming and going, there were probably even more than that!

Below are some pictures of the Providence, Rhode island tea party contributed by David Rinebolt. Thanks David!

Tea Party Revisited

Today I learned about a tea party inspired by the Boston tea party. It is called the New American Tea party. Basically the idea is to send a tea bag to several different representatives on April 1. This will ensure that the tea bag is received by April 15, the day of the tea party.

Wondering why anyone would send a tea bag to their representatives? The idea is to let the government “hear” from those who are against the stimulus package and too much government intervention.

Are you willing to send a tea bag to your representatives for this cause? Why or why not? I am genuinely curious.

Please send this to your local representatives and also to:

Save Our Successors (SOS)

David Ogden is a man who believes that America is already bound by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child due to International Law because almost every other nation has signed the treaty. That means Ogden already believes that the government has more control over children than their parents.

If that doesn’t concern you, Ogden also believes that there should be no internet filters at the library to prevent children from viewing pornography. He has a different view of such things than many of us.

Wondering why you should care?

David Ogden is scheduled to be confirmed by the Senate Judiciary Committee tomorrow (Thursday, February 26) as deputy attorney general. That is the 2nd highest highest seat on the Justice department.

Still wondering why you should care? His confirmation could mean that we are no longer allowed to home school our children, no longer allowed to take them to church, no longer allowed to keep them from viewing inappropriate things online, no longer allowed to send them to a sitter and be confident that they will still be there when  you return!!

Please call and let your local senator know that you are against his confirmation. You have at least 2 very good reasons. You can add the amount of children or grandchildren you have to that number too. Their lives could be in danger in a much more serious way than physically!

Here are the numbers for some states. If yours is not listed below, keep reading.

Notice that all these numbers have the same area code? That is because these numbers all call a the Senate Office Building in Washington DC. If your state is not above, choose a random number from above and call it. Tell them what state you are from, and they will transfer you to the correct person.

Please call. Don’t think your voice doesn’t count. It does!!! Not only does your one voice count, but you can reach even more voices by sharing this information with others who will call and oppose David Ogden as deputy attorney general of the United States.

It’s Hot in New England!!

I am afraid the Tennessee weather followed Luke and me to Rhode Island! It is actually hot here in New England! I checked the weather periodically today, and it got up to 100 degrees! If you are not familiar with the temperature in New England, average temperature for this time of year is about 78 degrees (according to weather.com) and the record high (since 1975) for Rhode Island any time of year is 104. And this is only June! If you are curious to know what the record high is in your state, check out infoplease.

We got a new air conditioner on Saturday and just got around to putting it in today. After Luke got home, I went on a quick trip to Home Depot to get the necessary stuff to install the AC unit. While there, someone mentioned that Wal-Mart was completely out of air conditioners. So, out of curiosity, I took notice of other people’s carts as I left the store. On my way out, I counted 13 air conditioners in the carts of other shoppers (sometimes 2 or 3 in one cart!) and others standing at the (very large) display of AC units at the front of the store, still deciding which one to get!! That is a lot of air conditioners!!!

Now, our new air conditioner is running downstairs while the old one runs upstairs, and we are enjoying the coolness of them both! Ah…..relief. By the way, new air conditioners do not smell as nice as new clothes or books (or new houses, for that matter).

Hope you’re all staying cool!

Elizabeth Barrett

Amazing! According to News Channel 11, Elizabeth Barrett can read at only 17 months and has been reading since she was 14 months old! If you have a minute, take time to watch the video and/or read the article. The article has a little bit more information, but the video lets you actually see her read. So if you are really interested, you may want to do both.

Reusing Syringes?!

I sit here in absolute shock that this has happened. It makes me wonder how things are in my own doctor’s office!! Check out this article. There is also a helpful video done by ABC News within the article. (I couldn’t figure out how to do a direct link). Please take notice and make sure your doctor’s office is handling syringes and medicine vials correctly! Go ahead and ask, even though it might be embarrassing. It could be a matter of life and death!!
