Luke and I decided to post our favorite February blog posts tonight. Because I am having a hard time choosing just one (as usual), I am posting two.Which would you have chosen?

Snow Shovel, Anyone?
A few days ago we got 6-7 inches of snow. We usually borrow our neighbors’ snow shovel. Because he wasn’t around to ask when I went out to shovel, I decided to use a regular shovel.
It did not take me long to discover that a regular shovel was not intended for snow. Most of the snow stuck to he metal shovel, and what didn’t stick to the shovel didn’t want to land where I wanted it to land.
After working for about 20 minutes, I looked around and realized that it would take me hours to finish at the rate I was going. I decided to go in to warm up. When I walked back out the door, my neighbor asked, “Are you shoveling snow?” Then came the words my cold fingers were glad to hear! He said, “here, use this” and handed me his snow shovel.
Never in my life have I appreciated a snow shovel so much! I went to pick up my first scoop of snow, and the shovel felt like it was gliding! My muscles gave a sigh of relief! And now that Spring is so close, I have about convinced myself to go buy a snow shovel! Hey! Maybe I can get one on clearance in a few weeks!!! π

Scaling Back Mt. Laundry
The two things our house seems to be overrun with are paper and clothing. We have tons of clothing. Luke suggested once that we cut back clothing to 4-6 outfits per person. I never took him seriously because to cut back on laundry means that I will always be washing clothes. And who wants to wash clothes all day every day?
Months later I discovered that not only was my husband’s suggestion a good one, but he wasn’t kidding when he suggested it! First off, it is easier to do laundry daily. I tend to let it pile up until someone comes to me saying, “I have no clean pants in my drawer.” Then I have to put everything on hold and wash clothes. When I do it daily, there is no hurry, and I can schedule it into each day. No surprises.
Now you are wondering how so few outfits could possibly be enough. My main concern was for those who still have occasional accidents. They can sometimes go through 3 outfits in one day! That is half their outfits!!
Well, if you are doing laundry daily, there will be laundry in the drawer by the next day. Even if you don’t get to it that day, there will stillΒ be 3 outfits left in their drawer for the next day!
Now you ask, won’t they wear the clothes out faster? Well, there is that, but what is the difference between having more clothes all at once and replacing a few outfits when they wear out? You may use as many clothes in the long run, but there is a chance that you won’t, and if you do, you still have less to deal with at one time.
If you normally pass your older child’s clothes down to your kids, having fewer will mean that you can actually let your 2nd child help pick out their clothes and not feel guilty about it because you really wouldn’t be spending any more money than you would have if you bought a lot for your older child.
Smileys and Life
Smileys. They are found online across the globe and can mean many different things including “I’m happy,” “I’m smiling,” “that’s funny,” or “just kidding.”
It seems to me like smileys are quite common everywhere, except one place. Wondering where that one place is? It’s called the real world.
Do you ever see someone walking down the sidewalk smiling for what seems like no reason? What do you think about them? “They look so weird walking around smiling for no reason!” The question is, how do you know he is smiling for no reason? Can you see what she is typing in her head?
Why do we assume that someone is weird if he is walking around with a smile on his face? Mostly because not many people do it any more. We live in a country that expects people to tuck their positive emotions away in a secret folder that is never to be publicly displayed.
In fact, our society seems to always keep the “negativity” folder open on its desktop. If you are unhappy with something a friend said to another friend about you, you chat it to all your friends.
What about when that same friend says something nice about you to a friend? First off, the fact that you found out about it at all would be miraculous, but if you did find out, would you make a point to thank that person? Brag on them on your blog?
You may be afraid the complimentary friend will find out that the word was spread. Did you worry about that when you spread the word about their not so complimentary words? Wouldn’t it make more sense to let them know you appreciated their compliment?
So, let out those positive emotions. Believe it or not the whole world wants to see them. They are dying for permission to let theirs out! So do us all a favor and smile! Don’t worry, it won’t crack your face, and if you get wrinkles from smiling, they will look a lot better than frowny wrinkles!
I previously mentioned some goals I have set for myself. Now I am going to set a another one. I am going to practice walking around smiling for no particular reason. I tried that while walking today, and do you have any idea how difficult it was? I kept noticing that I had a normal expression on my face instead of a smile.
I discovered that having a desire to smile actually makes me think of pleasant things. This is true because I need something to smile about, so I click on that search box in my head and type in “pleasant.” It was so cool to scroll down that list of wonderful things to think about!
Anyone else want to join me on this smiley venture? It can do nothing but benefit you. You may even get the opportunity to take your own scroll down memory lane!
Save Our Successors (SOS)
David Ogden is a man who believes that America is already bound by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child due to International Law because almost every other nation has signed the treaty. That means Ogden already believes that the government has more control over children than their parents.
If that doesn’t concern you, Ogden also believes that there should be no internet filters at the library to prevent children from viewing pornography. He has a different view of such things than many of us.
Wondering why you should care?
David Ogden is scheduled to be confirmed by the Senate Judiciary Committee tomorrow (Thursday, February 26) as deputy attorney general. That is the 2nd highest highest seat on the Justice department.
Still wondering why you should care? His confirmation could mean that we are no longer allowed to home school our children, no longer allowed to take them to church, no longer allowed to keep them from viewing inappropriate things online, no longer allowed to send them to a sitter and be confident that they will still be there whenΒ you return!!
Please call and let your local senator know that you are against his confirmation. You have at least 2 very good reasons. You can add the amount of children or grandchildren you have to that number too. Their lives could be in danger in a much more serious way than physically!
Here are the numbers for some states. If yours is not listed below, keep reading.

Notice that all these numbers have the same area code? That is because these numbers all call a the Senate Office Building in Washington DC. If your state is not above, choose a random number from above and call it. Tell them what state you are from, and they will transfer you to the correct person.
Please call. Don’t think your voice doesn’t count. It does!!! Not only does your one voice count, but you can reach even more voices by sharing this information with others who will call and oppose David Ogden as deputy attorney general of the United States.

A Life-Changing Goal
I am not the best house keeper in the world. I know you are so surprised because my house always looks neat when you come over.
What you don’t know is that my bedroom door is closed for a reason. I cross my fingers every time someone comes over, hoping that no one opens the door to my bedroom because if they do, I will be searching for them for an hour underneath all the stuff that fell on top of them. π
Okay, I guess that is exaggerating just a tiny bit. The funny thing is that I always thought I was super-organized! Now that I see how much my kids still have to learn, I realize that they haven’t learned because I haven’t taught them because I haven’t learned myself.
Soooo, I have set a goal for myself (with the help of my kind hubby) that I hope will be life-changing. It is my goal to get my house in order to the point that every single thing in the house has a place and everyone in the house knows what thing goes in what place.
I know…it’s everyone’s dream. I have a dream that it will one day become more than a dream in our household.
I plan to share more later about my experiences while trying to fulfill my dream of reaching my dream. π If you have suggestions along the way, I would love to hear about them. Maybe we can fulfill that dream together.

Will You Be a Rep?
Parentalrights.org has made it their goal to protect parental rights in America by preventing the signing of the UN Convention on the Rights of the child. I have posted several times on this topic, but if you need a mind refresher, take a few minutes and read to see how urgent this is. It could change the rights of parents and the relationship between parent and child for the worse. Here are the links to my blog discussing the treaty, how it is bad, and what you can do to help.
Parent Versus Big Brother
Time to Move
Call For Help
One of the worst parts is that it will forbid parents to teach their children about God.
Now parentalrights.org is looking to get signatures to put in motion a constitutional amendment to prevent America from signing this treaty. If nothing else, it gets people to send postcards to and call their congressmen to let them know they are absolutely against the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Are you willing to be a 10 & 2 Representative? One of these representative gets 10 people to sign a post card saying they are for the constitutional amendment. They also try to find 2 of those people who are willing to be a representative too. It is up to you to mail in all the postcards when parentalrights.org says the word. That means you have to pay postage for 10 postcards, but that seems like a small price to pay for the continued freedom of our children, grand children and great grand children. Please help me spread the word.
If you are willing to sign a postcard or become a representative, please let me know. If you have questions about how to become a 10-and-2 representative or anything associated with it, I would be more than happy to help out. If you don’t have questions, I would still be glad to know that you have joined this cause.
For more information, go to parentalrights.org.
